Developments in Applicability and CATA Scoring

Taught by Dr. John Ennis

Abstract:

Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) lists are commonly used in both survey research and sensory science. A related technique, referred to as applicability scoring, requires respondents to respond explicitly to each item of interest -applicability scoring is popular in the survey literature as it avoids several of the limitations of CATA scoring. In this webinar, we first review the backgrounds of CATA and applicability scoring, then discuss recent developments that allow for scale estimation from applicability data. We then show how this scale estimation provides a sensitive method for quantifying product differences on a range of attributes that might not be conveniently expressed in a rating or 2-Alternative Forced Choice format.

This webinar is intended for a general audience of sensory professionals and graduate students. No detailed technical knowledge is assumed.

A digital recording of this webinar is available for purchase ($289).
